Argus Communications

The software and surveillance corp. DC-coded, federal-contractor lineage, named for the hundred-eyed mythological watcher. Their logo and infrastructure are marked with a single stylized iris — and once you notice the eye, you start seeing it everywhere. The Beltway is wallpapered in Argus iris glyphs.

Role in the world

Argus runs the data layer — the Sentinel nanites every Beltway resident is born with, the corp-controlled mesh, the smart-paper that delivers it. They already see almost everything: every face matched against every camera, every transaction logged. What's left unseen, they mean to close.

The current push is into the bay — extending Tracer presence into the drowned Chesapeake, a surveillance blind spot until now. The Old Bay Council considers it an existential threat.

Public faces

  • Vivian Crowe ("The Iris") — Argus regional director and public face, driving the bay Tracer expansion; sells surveillance as care ("we watch because we protect")

Allies and friction

  • Allies: the other four corps; Tracers (data contracts); Carrion
  • Friction with: the Free Stack; the Mirrored; Lazarus; Glitches generically

Where they operate

Omnipresent. The single stylized iris on every camera housing, every sensor pole, every transit kiosk, every smart surface. The eye that never sleeps from truth #2 is literal: Argus surveillance is wallpapered across the Beltway.
