This easy beef and broccoli recipe has an addictive sauce that's super quick to make from scratch.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak (sliced thin across the grain)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • 3-4 cups broccoli florets

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon apple cider or rice vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Prep all ingredients: trim and slice steak across the grain into thin bite-sized pieces. Cut broccoli into small florets. Whisk sauce ingredients together in a bowl.

  2. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet over high heat until shimmering.

  3. Add broccoli and cook 4-5 minutes, stirring often until tender-crisp. Transfer to a plate.

  4. Add remaining oil to skillet. Spread beef in a single layer; cook 1 minute without stirring. Flip and cook another minute (keeping it slightly rare prevents toughness).

  5. Return broccoli to pan, pour in sauce, and toss until coated and thickened, about 1-3 minutes. Serve immediately.
